Communicating with Congress While every citizen can talk to Congress, some voices are heard better than others. Effective lobbying requires preparation. Reliable, useful, well-presented information is the most important key to getting your voice heard in Washington. Know enough about an issue and/or legislation to be able to be accurate and to answer questions about what the bill will and will not do, who it will benefit and/or harm, and why a particular Member of Congress should support or oppose it. If the Member does not know any of these items, and you can pass on the information to him or her, then you have already been helpful. And that’s another key to Lobbying: finding ways to help a Member of Congress. |
